About the Parts Locator

The ATV Parts Locator was established as a web-based service over twenty years ago. The idea behind the site was placing the owners of vintage ATC's and vintage ATV's in touch with the required maintenance parts to keep their machines running.

The early days of ATC's and ATV's were innovative times and many of the earlier models suffered from design flaws or inadequacies. The early machines were not nearly as reliable as today's ATV's.

Back then, the only option for purchasing repair parts was to drive to your local dealership and place an order. It was never an inconvenience until the internet came along.

All of a sudden, we had options. Placing an order for parts from your home PC was far more convenient than driving to a dealership to place the order, then driving to the dealership to retieve those parts.

Hence the ATV Parts Locator was born. As the market has changed over the years, so have we. We currently send most customers to eBay for the rare or out of production parts since it has become literally the best option.

We do offer other sources as well. Some of the most popular parts like brake pads, rims, cable, etc. have been replicated and even improved and are available in the aftermarket.

Buying Parts in the Old Days

Let's not forget how we used to do it... In the old days, buying ATC and ATV parts involved physically visiting a parts dealer or a motorcycle shop, or browsing through catalogs and ordering by mail. Here are some of the ways people used to buy motorcycle parts in the past:

  1. Visiting Parts Dealers and Motorcycle Shops: In the past, people would visit local parts dealers and motorcycle shops to purchase parts for their motorcycles. They would discuss their requirements with the dealer or shop owner and purchase the parts they needed on the spot. Some dealers would also offer advice on installation and maintenance.
  2. Browsing through Catalogs: Motorcycle parts catalogs were popular in the past, and people would browse through them to find the parts they needed. Catalogs were often mailed to customers or distributed through dealerships and motorcycle shops. Customers could order the parts they needed by phone or by mail, and the parts would be shipped to them.
  3. Salvage Yards: Salvage yards were popular in the past, and people would visit them to find used or rare parts for their motorcycles. Salvage yards would often have a wide range of parts from different manufacturers, making them a popular choice for people looking for hard-to-find parts.
  4. Swap Meets: Swap meets were also popular in the past, and people would attend them to buy, sell, and trade motorcycle parts. These events were often held in parking lots, fairgrounds, or other public spaces, and attracted a wide range of vendors and customers.

Overall, buying ATV and ATC parts in the old days involved physical visits to dealerships and shops, browsing through catalogs, visiting salvage yards, and attending swap meets. While these methods are still available today, online shopping has made it easier for customers to find and purchase motorcycle parts from the comfort of their own homes.

Today, the APL app makes life easier, buying a part literally comes down to pushing some buttons on your PC or mobile device.
